Your air conditioner furnace filters size is measured by the width x length x thickness in inches. For example, a pleated air filter that is 20x25x1 means 20 inches wide by 25 inches long by 1 inch thick. Most residential air conditioner furnace filters are 1” thick. The actual measurements of each air conditioner furnace filters are usually about half an inch less than the listed size. The actual size of our 20x25x1” air conditioner furnace filter is 19 ½ x 24 ½ x ¾”. This is normal. Most air conditioner furnace filters have the size printed on them, so you just have to find your existing air conditioner furnace filters. Sometimes homes have 2 or 3 different sizes of air conditioner furnace filters in various locations in your home. Again, consult your HVAC system’s operating manual for information. Our filters may vary up to 1/8 of an inch due to the nature of the filter manufacturing process.

MERV 7 filters are the perfect filters for those whose HVAC systems are a bit older. 20x25x1 MERV 7 filters are a medium grade filter with low resistance to airflow.

The MERV rating system helps to understand the size of particles removed when air passes through the filters. The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) 52.2 standard test measures filter efficiency on particle sizes from .3 to 10 microns. Our MERV 7 filter has 50 - 69.9% efficiency when filtering airborne particles the size 3.0 – 10.0 microns. These filters are able to filter out mold, spores, hair spray, fabric protectors, dusting aides, cement dust, pudding mix, snuff and powdered milk, just to mention a few typical controlled contaminates.

Our 20x25x1 MERV 7 filters are also able to filter out harmful swine flu & bird flu viruses. Our MERV 7 filters are 7% efficient when filtering swine flu & bird flu viruses. Even though a filter has a low MERV rating, it does not mean that they are not beneficial to a home. After a few air changes, the efficiency raises greatly.

20x25x1 MERV 7 filters are pleated, meaning they have a larger surface area. This extends the life of the filter.
